With an Excepted Benefit Health Reimbursement Arrangement (EBHRA), employees get reimbursed for out-of-pocket medical expenses like co-pays, deductibles, dental and vision coverage, COBRA premiums, and long-term care. Employees do not have to be on their employer’s health insurance plan to participate in the EBHRA.

How does it work?

  1. Employer offers a group health plan and EBHRA
  2. Employees choose if they want to participate in the group health plan, the EBHRA, or both
  3. Employees pay for qualified medical expenses with an Ameriflex card, or
  4. They payout of pocket and submit a claim form for reimbursement
  5. Employees get reimbursed for eligible claims paid out of pocket

Items to note:

  • An EBHRA can not be offered to employees who are already enrolled in an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA)
  • An EBHRA can not reimbursed individual health insurance premiums
